This offseason, there are several drills that the boys can do in order to improve their hitting. Below are several videos of the basic mechanics, suggested drills, and breakdowns of their favorite MLB players. Our boys should be taking 100 swings per week in the offseason. Here are some basic exercises that they can do in the garage, outside in the backyard, at a ball field, or in an indoor facility:
Tee work - Focus on the mechanics; mix in not stepping (utilize the hips); mix in inside, outside, high, and low (This is an easy drill with a tee and a net at home)
Front or side toss - Work on bat speed. If at home, utilize side toss in order to be safe. If at a facility with an L Screen, utilize front toss.
Live pitching or pitching machine - It is always good to get swings with pitching at a greater distance and higher speed.
The boys can also do strength training, including pushups or slamming a medicine ball.
